Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead Generative AI Strategy: Define and execute the vision for Generative AI services enablement and solution delivery on United AI Studio, the enterprise ML platform.
  • Drive Innovation: Stay at the forefront of Generative AI research and emerging technologies, identifying opportunities to enhance business outcomes through innovative AI solutions.
  • Establish Best Practices: Develop and implement enterprise-wide standards and governance frameworks to ensure secure, consistent, and efficient use of Generative AI resources across UHG.
  • Promote Adoption: Champion Generative AI by creating proofs of concept, demos, and success stories that drive organization-wide adoption across diverse functions — including technology, operations, marketing, legal, compliance, HR, and infrastructure.
  • Mentor and Guide Teams: Provide technical mentorship to AI/ML engineering teams, from interpreting research literature to overseeing the design, development, and delivery of production-ready AI/ML solutions.
  • Collaborate Across Functions: Partner with business and technical stakeholders to identify high-impact AI opportunities and define solution roadmaps aligned with enterprise goals.
  • Ensure Responsible AI Practices: Work closely with the Responsible Use of AI (RUAI) team to maintain compliance with ethical AI principles, company policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Adhere to Company Policies: Follow all employment terms, company procedures, and business directives, including flexibility in work assignments, shifts, and arrangements as required by evolving business needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related STEM discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 15+ years of experience in technical engineering roles, including 5+ years delivering AI/ML solutions at scale.
  • Proven track record in leading AI/ML projects from ideation through delivery and performance evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of software development tools and DevOps practices, including Git, Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Proficiency in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and GenAI solution pipelines, including RAG and evaluation methodologies.
  • Expertise in Large Language Models (LLMs) and Transformer architectures (e.g., BERT, GPT).
  • Advanced programming skills in Python and familiarity with AI/ML frameworks such as MLflow, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and JAX.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to translate complex AI/ML concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related STEM field.
  • Experience applying AI in healthcare environments.
  • Background in mentoring and developing AI/ML talent across distributed global teams.
  • Experience defining and implementing AI/ML best practices, governance, and ethics frameworks.
  • Proven success delivering measurable impact through AI/ML solutions in production settings.
  • Recognized contributions through AI/ML publications, patents, or industry awards.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to executive leadership and large audiences.
