At Mercedes, we pride ourselves on developing our placements through a structured rotation programme, offering exposure to a broad range of engineering disciplines across exciting projects in Formula 1 and the Project ONE hypercar.
Role Overview
As a placement in this area, you will:
- Design and implement control algorithms and supporting functionality for electric machines
- Develop calibrations to maximise machine performance
- Support testing and validation of systems
Depending on your skills and interests, you may also gain experience in:
Calibration and Controls
- Innovate calibration and control systems to optimise energy flow for peak performance and driveability
Mechatronics and Chassis Engineering
- Design new concepts and integrate the Power Unit with the chassis
- Develop the ERS pack, including electronic and mechanical components
Test Engineering
- Recreate racetrack and race-car conditions in a test environment
- Engineer test rigs to push components and systems to their limits and validate simulations
Advanced Technology
In Advanced Technology, we aim to make Mercedes a leader in electric drive performance, efficiency, and sustainability. Placements may contribute to:
- Software development for control systems and calibrations to maximise performance and drivability

What We are Looking For
- Curious, tenacious, and driven individuals with a hunger for fast-paced environments
- 2:1 (or above) in Electrical/Electronics, Control Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong academic background in Maths, Sciences, or relevant A Levels
- Solid understanding of engineering principles and control theory
- Practical, hands-on experience to complement academic learning
- Excellent communication skills, adaptability, and creativity
- Courage to challenge, and be challenged, to expand technical knowledge
