- Agentic commerce and data-driven product features
- Personalized recommendations and risk/fraud detection

The Role
We are looking for a Director of Engineering, Data & AI/ML to lead this critical function. This is a highly technical leadership role—ideal for someone who excels at building teams, defining technical strategy, and delivering large-scale data and AI systems that create real business value.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and grow a high-performing team of data engineers, AI/ML engineers, and data scientists.
- Build a culture of innovation, collaboration, technical excellence, and inclusion.
- Manage and mentor technical leads and first-level managers.
- Attract and retain top-tier engineering talent.
Strategy & Vision
- Define and execute the technical vision for Bolts data and AI platform.
- Partner with Product, Design, and business stakeholders (e.g., Risk, Growth, Finance) to align initiatives with company goals.
- Stay current on data and AI innovations and integrate relevant technologies into Bolts roadmap.
Technical Execution & Architecture
- Oversee the design, development, and operation of scalable, cost-efficient data pipelines, warehouses/lakes, ML infrastructure, and analytics systems.
- Ensure sound architecture, best practices, and operational excellence.
- Balance short-term delivery with long-term scalability and architectural health.
- Provide technical direction and ensure timely, high-quality execution.
Cross-Functional Impact
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver meaningful insights.
- Communicate technical strategy, progress, and risks clearly to executives and non-technical audiences.
- Champion strong data governance, security, and quality standards across Bolt.
Requirements
- Education: BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience:
- 7+ years of progressive engineering leadership (including 2+ years managing managers or senior leads).
- 10+ years total hands-on engineering experience in large-scale data systems.
- Deep expertise with modern data technologies, including:
- Data warehousing: Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift
- Data processing: Spark, Flink, Kafka, Airflow
- Data modeling and ETL/ELT pipelines
- ML infrastructure (MLOps, feature stores, model serving, experimentation)
- BI and analytics platforms
- Proven ability to define technical strategy, build multi-quarter roadmaps, and execute effectively.
- Experience leading teams in fast-paced, high-growth tech environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving ability in ambiguous situations.
