About the Role

Ramp is an engineering-first company on a mission to build one of the best engineering teams in the world. Our teams are highly cross-functional and tackle a wide range of complex, high-impact technical challenges. We’re looking for engineers who take strong ownership, enjoy seeing projects through from initial design to production scale, and take pride in the quality of their work.

In this role, you’ll work alongside a small, talented group of engineers and have a lasting influence on Ramp’s technical architecture and engineering culture. You don’t need to be an expert in our exact tech stack on day one—we value curiosity, fast learners, and engineers who thrive in dynamic environments.

The ideal candidate has deep experience with AWS (or a comparable cloud provider) and a proven track record of designing, deploying, and operating production-grade infrastructure. You’ll play a key role in building the next generation of Ramp’s database and infrastructure systems, tackling challenges related to scale, concurrency, fault tolerance, and reliability. You’ll also act as a mentor, helping raise the technical bar across the team.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, influence, and implement the next generation of Ramp’s database, real-time queue, and container orchestration infrastructure
  • Partner across engineering teams to introduce and scale cloud-native best practices using technologies such as Cloudflare, Amazon ALB, service discovery, ECS/EKS, Celery, Kafka, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, Elasticache Redis, and S3
  • Build reusable abstractions in Terraform to simplify architecture, improve reliability, and increase development velocity
  • Solve Ramp’s most challenging scaling, performance, and low-latency problems
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to diagnose and resolve critical production incidents

What You’ll Need

  • 2+ years of experience designing and shipping high-quality architectures for mission-critical systems (preferred)
  • Hands-on production experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Strong ability to translate customer and business requirements into impactful technical solutions
  • Proven experience using Infrastructure-as-Code in production environments (e.g., Terraform)
  • Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language

Deep experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Large-scale SQL databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar
  • Real-time or distributed queue systems: Kafka, Celery, SQS, Temporal
  • Container orchestration and web infrastructure: ECS or Kubernetes, load balancing, Gunicorn, Flask
