Key Responsibilities
1. Food Preparation & Sanitation
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized bakery work area, including work surfaces, display cases, coolers, windows, and equipment.
- Follow all company policies, health codes, and food safety regulations for preparing, handling, packaging, labeling, and storing bakery items.
- Operate bakery tools and equipment (such as mixers, ovens, and slicers) safely and effectively, ensuring all equipment is properly cleaned and sanitized after use.
- Use approved cleaning supplies, sanitizers, and tools to maintain hygiene standards in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor product quality and freshness, rotating stock and removing outdated or damaged items as necessary.
2. Merchandising & Product Presentation
- Stock and organize bakery merchandise to ensure displays are full, attractive, and aligned with visual merchandising standards.
- Ensure that all products are accurately signed, priced, and labeled.
- Create inviting product displays and promotional setups that highlight seasonal or featured items.
- Maintain accurate inventory levels, report shortages, and ensure that design materials are readily available for decorating and customization.
- Remove, document, and dispose of damaged, expired, or unsellable goods following company procedures.
3. Product Decoration & Production
- Prepare bakery items daily according to production schedules, recipes, and member orders.
- Utilize specialized decorating techniques to create visually appealing and consistent designs that meet company standards and member expectations.
- Decorate cakes, cupcakes, pies, and other baked goods using various decorating tools (bags, tips, nozzles, etc.) to craft flowers, borders, lettering, and themed designs.
- Follow precise measurements, ingredient proportions, and recipe instructions to maintain quality and taste consistency.
- Accurately process and fulfill member special orders, ensuring that all custom requests are completed on time and according to specifications.
- Properly wrap, label, and store finished products to preserve quality and prevent contamination.
4. Member Service
- Deliver exceptional customer service by greeting members warmly, identifying their needs, and assisting with product selection or customization.
- Take and manage bakery orders in person or by phone, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of completion.
- Use effective selling techniques to promote bakery products, seasonal offerings, and department specials.
- Address member inquiries, feedback, and concerns professionally and courteously to ensure a positive shopping experience.
- Collaborate with team members and management to meet department sales goals and service standards.
5. Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company, local, and state safety regulations and sanitation policies.
- Conduct regular safety sweeps and report any hazardous or unsafe conditions to management immediately.
- Comply with proper forklift spotting procedures and adhere to steel safety standards when handling or moving bakery merchandise.
- Participate in required safety and food handling training sessions to stay current on best practices and compliance updates.
6. Sales Floor Maintenance
- Maintain the overall appearance and organization of the bakery sales area in accordance with company guidelines.
- Process returns, claims, and damaged merchandise accurately and in a timely manner.
- Monitor and manage product shrink by adhering to inventory control and waste reduction practices.
- Ensure the bakery area remains fully stocked, clean, and visually appealing throughout the day to enhance the member shopping experience.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a bakery, food service, or retail environment preferred but not required.
- Strong attention to detail, especially in food preparation, decorating, and presentation.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods, and work with ovens and other bakery equipment safely.
- Availability for flexible scheduling, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.s.
