Job Summary:
The Chemical Safety Engineer for Hazard and Risk Management will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and sustainability of our chemical operations. This individual will be responsible for conducting risk assessments, implementing safety protocols, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations in relation to hazardous materials. The Chemical Safety Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and execute safety plans that minimize potential hazards associated with chemical processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment: Conduct thorough hazard analyses and risk assessments on chemical processes and systems to identify potential risks to health, safety, and the environment.
- Safety Protocols & Procedures: Develop, implement, and maintain chemical safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all chemical operations meet or exceed local, national, and international safety and environmental regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and other applicable standards.
- Emergency Response Planning: Collaborate with emergency response teams to create and test chemical spill response and disaster recovery plans.
- Training & Awareness: Provide safety training for employees to enhance safety awareness, best practices, and emergency procedures for handling hazardous chemicals.
- Continuous Improvement: Analyze chemical safety data, identify trends, and recommend improvements to chemical safety programs, equipment, and systems.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed safety and risk assessment reports for senior management, government agencies, and regulatory bodies.
- Incident Investigation: Investigate chemical accidents, near-misses, and safety breaches, and provide recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
- Certifications: Certification in Chemical Safety, Hazardous Materials Handling, or Risk Management is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of chemical processes, safety engineering principles, and environmental regulations.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly convey safety guidelines, report incidents, and interact with various departments.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to assess and address complex safety issues, ensuring swift and effective solutions.
- Attention to Detail: High attention to detail when performing safety audits, risk assessments, and evaluating safety systems.
Experience:
- Industry Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in chemical safety, hazard and risk management, or a similar safety-related field within the chemical, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing industries.
- Risk Management Experience: Proven track record of implementing risk management programs and identifying safety hazards in industrial settings.
- Project Management: Experience in leading or managing projects related to chemical safety, risk mitigation, or regulatory compliance.
Working Hours:
- Full-time position.
- Standard working hours are 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
- Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required based on project deadlines or safety emergencies.

- In-depth Knowledge of Safety Regulations: Expertise in understanding and applying chemical safety laws and regulations.
- Risk Management Skills: Strong ability to evaluate, mitigate, and manage chemical hazards effectively.
- Safety Program Development: Skilled in creating and implementing comprehensive safety programs and protocols for chemical safety.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including operations, production, and regulatory bodies, to maintain safety standards.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to assess complex chemical processes and determine effective risk management strategies.
- Attention to Detail: Careful consideration of safety issues, ensuring compliance with safety standards at all levels.
