Role Overview

As a Performance Engineer I, you will play a key role in supporting solar renewable energy projects by managing technical asset management contracts, providing engineering consulting, and assisting in the overall operations of the Portfolio Management, Onboarding, and Technical Asset Management teams. This is a hands-on, dynamic role where you will actively contribute to performance evaluations, issue identification, and process improvements across multiple solar energy sites.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Asset Management

  • Lead technical evaluation of client solar sites, ensuring operational performance aligns with expectations.

  • Identify and resolve data and performance issues, offering actionable recommendations for improvement.

  • Monitor and provide technical oversight of Operations & Maintenance (O&M) providers.

  • Track equipment and data outages; implement solutions to reduce downtime.

  • Support spares strategy development and contribute to root cause analysis.

  • Prepare and deliver monthly performance reports on site metrics and key performance indicators.

2. Technical Onboarding of New Solar Sites

  • Review site drawings, designs, and engineering documents to ensure alignment with project requirements.

  • Analyze PVSyst models and energy forecasts, offering feedback on data accuracy.

  • Ensure seamless technical transition during handoffs from developers to O&M providers.

  • Participate in onboarding and turnover meetings with clients, developers, and O&M teams.

  • Compare design models and financial forecasts to identify discrepancies and address potential issues.

3. Consulting & Engineering Support

  • Provide engineering consulting services for solar project design, construction, and commissioning.

  • Offer performance analysis and troubleshooting for underperforming solar sites.

4. Process Improvement and Leadership

  • Develop and refine standard operating procedures for asset management processes.

  • Draft technical reports, analyses, and presentations for both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Mentor and guide junior team members, helping to elevate the team’s technical capabilities and service delivery.

Preferred Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in the solar/renewable energy industry is preferred.

Required Qualifications & Education

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related energy field (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering).

  • Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience in the power generation industry, with a focus on solar, battery storage, or other renewable energy sources.

  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Capable of creating clear and concise reports and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Planning & Organization: Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.

  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Ability to manage shifting priorities and unexpected challenges.

  • Problem Solving: Proactive in identifying issues and proposing solutions. Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Strong understanding of solar plant performance and electrical design.

    • Familiarity with industry best practices, solar equipment, energy storage systems, and substation operations.

    • Experience with module/inverter/tracking systems and electrical testing protocols.

  • Technology Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with experience in data analysis and report generation.

  • Passion for Learning: Enthusiasm for continuous learning and development in the rapidly evolving renewable energy sector.
