Based on customer technical specifications and inputs from the OU Engineering team, you will develop complete primary engineering deliverables, including:

  • Protection and Principle SLDs, schematics, and power supply schemes
  • Substation layouts (plans and sections)
  • Standard technical specifications for major equipment
  • Bills of Materials (BOM), RFQs, vendor offer evaluations, and cost comparisons
  • Engineering hours estimation, technical risk assessment, and opportunity evaluation

You will also contribute to R&D and continuous improvement initiatives, including comparisons of AIS, GIS, and PASS solutions and optimization of engineering workflows.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Serve as Design Authority for all engineering activities on assigned low- and medium-complexity projects
  • Act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for customers on engineering-related matters, participating in meetings and ensuring customer expectations are met
  • Support the Project Manager by resolving technical issues and ensuring on-time engineering delivery
  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate the engineering project team, managing scope, schedule, progress, approvals, budgets, resource loading, and cost-to-complete
  • Conduct Engineering Meetings and Reviews, ensuring engineering processes are applied and scaled appropriately in alignment with the Engineering Manager
  • Perform engineering project reviews, reporting progress and cost-to-complete to Engineering and Project Managers
  • Interface with suppliers to obtain technical support, improve material quality, reduce costs, and evaluate prototype products and technical tests
  • Deliver transmission and distribution projects with strong primary and secondary design expertise
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards and drive continuous technical and functional improvements
  • Coach and develop engineers and designers, planning and supporting their skill development
  • Ensure quality processes are followed by all engineering contributors, escalating issues to QA/QC as required
  • Manage cross-domain technical clarifications and proactively mitigate responsibility gaps within the project team
  • Identify, track, and drive engineering-related change cases and support claim preparation with clients and suppliers
  • Initiate and drive corrective actions where required
  • Collect, assess, and manage engineering-related project risks and opportunities, including those related to schedule, data availability, and assumptions
  • Take proactive and calculated risks to achieve results while maintaining speed and quality
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable internal and external regulations, procedures, and guidelines
  • Demonstrate Hitachi Energy’s core values of safety and integrity in all actions and decisions

Your Background

  • Strong knowledge of primary substation equipment, including circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, instrument transformers, and power transformers
  • Solid understanding of HV grid power systems
  • Good knowledge of civil and structural elements of substations, such as transformer bunds, cable trenches, ducts, support structures, and access roads
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and validating Bills of Materials for tenders and projects
  • Expertise in primary engineering design calculations, including grounding system design, drawings, and BOMs
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (Autodesk Revit preferred; 3D design experience is an advantage) and relevant engineering calculation tools
  • Knowledge of international standards (IEC, IEEE, etc.) and experience in substation tendering and project engineering (technical and commercial)
  • Ability to work independently on complex or specialized engineering challenges, applying established standards while challenging conventional solutions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across functions
  • High attention to detail and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions
