Job Summary:
The Town of Merrimack Fire & Rescue Department is currently accepting applications to fill an immediate opening and to establish an eligibility list for the positions of Firefighter EMT, Firefighter AEMT, and Firefighter Paramedic.
As a Firefighter (EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic), you will perform essential emergency services, including fire suppression, emergency medical care, rescue operations, and other life safety responsibilities. You will work as part of a team, responding to incidents using various apparatus such as engines, ladders, rescues, and ambulances. All duties must be carried out in compliance with department rules, policies, and standard operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
* Respond to fire, EMS, and rescue calls as part of an assigned company or unit
* Operate and maintain firefighting and EMS equipment and apparatus
* Provide high-quality pre-hospital emergency medical care
* Participate in training, drills, and continuing education
* Assist in fire prevention, public education, and community outreach efforts
* Maintain readiness of equipment, station, and personal gear
* Follow department protocols and chain of command at all times
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
* Strong understanding of fire suppression, EMS operations, rescue techniques, and incident command
* Knowledge of fire service practices, emergency management protocols, and applicable laws and codes
* Familiarity with Windows-based software, including Microsoft Word
* Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in high-stress environments
* Commitment to teamwork, professionalism, and public service
* Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
Minimum Qualifications:
* Valid New Hampshire Driver’s License (CDL preferred)
* Nationally Registered EMT, Advanced EMT (AEMT), or Paramedic
* Certified Firefighter Level II (must be obtained within 1 year of employment)
* Hazardous Materials – Operations level certification
* Successful completion of the State of NH Fire Entrance Exam and CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test)
