The Merchandising Development Leadership Program (MDLP) is a multi-year rotational experience designed to develop Walmart’s next generation of Merchandising leaders. Over the course of 3.5 to 5 years, participants will gain cross-functional experience, strategic insight, and hands-on leadership opportunities across key areas of Walmart’s omnichannel retail business.
As a member of the MDLP, you’ll work on some of the most complex challenges in global retail—helping Walmart evolve from the world’s largest brick-and-mortar retailer into a true omnichannel experience provider. You’ll have direct exposure to senior leaders, cross-functional partners, and strategic business initiatives that drive impact at scale.
Rotational Experiences
1. Business Analytics & Planning
Build expertise in retail math, data systems, and category P&L management. Develop analytical insights and strategic recommendations that accelerate market share growth, improve price competitiveness, and achieve financial goals.
Key skills: Strategic thinking, data analytics, financial planning, decision-making.
2. Replenishment
Learn how to optimize product flow through Walmart’s supply chain. Strengthen supplier partnerships and understand inventory’s impact on financial performance.
Key skills: Supply chain operations, supplier negotiation, data-driven decision-making.
3. Modular Development
Use customer insights, industry trends, and Walmart financials to design and optimize product assortments across stores and digital channels.
Key skills: Customer insights, assortment planning, project management, data analytics.
4. Central Merchandising Operations
Develop and implement merchandising strategies, tools, and processes that empower internal teams to meet customer needs and financial objectives.

5. Merchant Role
Own a business portfolio with full P&L responsibility. Select assortments, negotiate with suppliers, and deliver omni-channel growth strategies that drive value for customers.

Basic Qualifications

Currently enrolled in an MBA program, graduating Spring 2026

3–5+ years of professional or military experience
