Job Title: Embedded Systems Engineer – Power Electronics
About the Role
We are looking for an Embedded Systems Engineer to join a small, cross-functional team working on the development of advanced electrical power systems—primarily focusing on power converters. This role offers a blend of embedded software development, system design, and hands-on prototyping and testing.
As the team’s embedded technical specialist, you’ll work closely with system engineers and electronics experts to deliver robust and reliable embedded solutions for power conversion and control.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the embedded technical expert within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Design and develop system-level solutions in collaboration with electronics and systems specialists.
- Develop embedded software and firmware for DSPs and microcontroller-based systems (controllers, protection devices, converters).
- Build and test prototypes, ensuring design intent and functionality.
- Define and manage system interfaces, ensuring seamless integration with surrounding components and systems.
- Support verification, validation, and qualification activities across the product lifecycle.
- Gather, analyse, and challenge customer requirements to ensure robust design input.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical queries and refine requirements.
- Drive standardisation, reuse, and efficient design practices across projects.
- Conduct system-level analysis and contribute to design validation activities.
- Proactively tailor or enhance engineering processes to improve quality and repeatability.
Financial Responsibility
- Ensure delivery of assigned work packages within agreed scope, schedule, and budget.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Software/Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
Essential Skills:
- Demonstrated experience in developing embedded software/firmware—ideally within the automotive, aerospace, nuclear, or defence sectors.
- Strong programming skills in Embedded C/C++ and/or Python.
- Experience with microcontroller and DSP-based systems.
- Knowledge of embedded systems design and integration.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach.
- Strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
- Flexible and quick to adapt to new challenges and technologies.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with DSPs and digital control.
- Exposure to MATLAB/Simulink code generation.
- Knowledge of power electronics and power systems.
- Familiarity with requirements management tools such as Jama, DOORS, or Polarion.
- Understanding of agile methodologies (e.g., sprints, scrums) and use of tools like Jira for task management.
- Systems-level testing experience.
