System Administrator / Senior System Administrator

Job Summary:

American Airlines is seeking a skilled and dynamic System Administrator / Senior System Administrator to join our IT team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and security of our IT infrastructure. You will manage, maintain, and enhance our systems and networks, providing critical support to our operations across multiple locations. This role requires a deep understanding of IT systems, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other IT professionals and departments.

Key Responsibilities:

• System Management: Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, operating systems, and applications. Ensure system stability and performance by performing regular updates and patches.
• Network Administration: Manage network infrastructure, including switches, routers, and firewalls. Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues to ensure seamless operations.
• Security: Implement and enforce security protocols to safeguard data and systems. Conduct regular security assessments and respond to security incidents in a timely manner.
• Support: Provide technical support to end-users, resolving hardware and software issues. Offer guidance and training to staff on system usage and best practices.
• Backup and Recovery: Develop and manage backup and recovery strategies to protect critical data. Regularly test backup systems and ensure successful data restoration processes.
• Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Ensure accurate records of changes and updates to the IT environment.
• Project Management: Lead and contribute to IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and new implementations. Collaborate with stakeholders to define project requirements and deliver solutions on time.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Technical Expertise: Proficiency in Windows Server, Linux, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure). Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) and automation tools.
• Networking Knowledge: Solid understanding of network protocols, VLANs, VPNs, and firewall configurations.
• Security Awareness: Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, practices, and tools. Experience with endpoint protection, intrusion detection systems, and data encryption.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with other IT professionals and departments.

Experience:

• System Administrator: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a system administration role, including hands-on experience with server and network management.
• Senior System Administrator: Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in system administration with a demonstrated track record of managing large-scale IT environments and leading projects.

Working Hours:

• Full-time position with standard business hours. Flexibility to accommodate occasional after-hours support or on-call duties as needed.
