Job Summary
Waste Management is seeking a dedicated and skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring our fleet of vehicles operates efficiently and safely. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and related systems, contributing to our commitment to delivering exceptional waste management services.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, including inspections, oil changes, and part replacements.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and troubleshoot problems with vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct safety checks and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed on each vehicle.
- Collaborate with other mechanics and support staff to ensure timely repairs and minimal downtime.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior mechanics and apprentices.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in diesel technology and maintenance practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification from a vocational school in diesel mechanics is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic, ideally in a fleet management or transportation environment.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid drivers license and a clean driving record.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic or in a related role.
- Experience with various makes and models of diesel trucks and equipment is an asset.
Working Hours
- Full-time position with standard working hours from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Flexibility may be required for overtime or weekend work as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- In-depth understanding of diesel engine components and systems.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations in vehicle maintenance.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with team members and management.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to continue education and training in the field of diesel mechanics.
